Window Shopping Wednesday: Tropical Getaway

I definitely saw a trend on instagram over the weekend - I think 75% of the people I follow were away on a tropical getaway.  And it definitely left me with some pangs of jealousy but also some inspiration for today's post.  I was especially inspired by Julia's visit to Cuixmala Mexico so I'm sharing a couple of things I'd pack for a trip to this resort:

Fitness Friday: Hot Yoga Edition

I'm excited to talk to you guys about yoga today!  Coming from hot yoga last Sunday I felt especially inspired to write today's post and take on the week.

I have come to love hot yoga because it really helps me clear my mind and get a nice stretch/cleanse in while continuing to challenge my muscles.  And no, I'm not referring to Bikram yoga and no, hot yoga is not scary, it's more of a yoga class in a warm room.  You definitely sweat a lot but it's by no means unbearable!  I've also realized that while I don't consider myself a full blown "yogi" by any means, I've really grown in my practice and appreciate the teachings in every class I attend because they really help put life into perspective.

IMG_9135

Today I'm breaking down my essentials for a hot yoga class: a mat, a no-slip towel (or any towel really - trust me, you will need a towel), a medium-impact sports bra and either compression shorts or capris.  I personally prefer doing hot yoga with just a sports bra and shorts but if you're not quite ready to bare all of that a fitted tank and capris work great too.

Now back to my post about ClassPass and my favorite yoga studios in the City.  My first yoga experience was at Yoga to the People when I first moved here and I've since tried New York Hot yoga and Y7 Studio.  My favorite, hands down is Yoga to the People because it's the most unpretentious and welcoming yoga studio you'll ever try in your life.  Not to mention the classes are only $5!  But since they're so amazing, it can definitely get competitive trying to get a spot (I've been known to line up at 6:15 for a 7 PM class on a Monday night) so if I want to use ClassPass and actually reserve a spot I'll head to Y7.  They started out in Brooklyn but share a studio in SoHo with The Monster Cycle (more on that later!) and it's pretty convenient for me to get to.  Oh and the vibe is truly awesome.

Window Shopping Wednesday: Spring Refresh

February was cold.  So cold that it was one of the coldest in history since at least 1934.  Crazy right? Well all this chill has me dreaming of Spring and the good ole days when I could run around in a dress sans tights, with some strappy shoes.  And all the spring arrivals popping up aren't helping either!

Today I'm sharing my favorite Spring things I'm dreaming of to refresh my wardrobe.  I'm clearly digging neutrals, a softer pastel palette and some pops of pattern here and there - what are you eying for Spring?!

Window Shopping Wednesday: Fall Peep Toe Booties

I have a confession: today's post started out as a "fall lust list" but quickly morphed into a round up of all my favorite peep toe booties when I couldn't decide on just one bootie to feature in said "lust list."  #sorrynotsorry

So when I quickly tumbled down the rabbit hole at two of my favorite shoe retailers (DSW and Nordstrom)  I decided to share the results with you.  I think there's a little something for everyone in this post: fringe, suede, perforated leather, sleek leather, buckles, zippers...  Literally something for everyone.

And the most important question: which pair is your favorite?!

The Right... Red Strappy Pumps

IMG_4964

Happy Monday!  Can we just quickly talk about where this summer went?  I know it isn't over yet but I recently had a reality check when I realized there's only a couple of weeks left of summer.  Crazy how time flies when you're having fun!  I'm still trying to squeeze in a couple more adventures before "shitshow September" hits.  One of my coworkers used this phrase last week and I died laughing because it's true - everyone comes back to the city right after Labor Day and it's go time until the holidays.

In the meantime, I definitely plan on running around in easy outfits like this one.

Nothing like a little black and white with a pop of red - keepin' it simple with a statement.

Window Shopping Wednesday: Currently Coveting

Today I wanted to share a few things I've been eyeing around the internets.  I know we're still in the middle of summer but I can't help but start to want to gravitate toward some fall fashion!  Or at least transition pieces, like that camo skirt and that tweed jacket - I'm keeping the rest light and airy for you though!

Window Shopping Wednesday: A Formal Affair

I'm so excited for tonight you guys!  I'm headed to the Edeyo Gives Hope Ball which is an organization devoted to improving the future for children in Haiti through programs focused on education.  In honor of this occasion today I'm talking all about what to wear to a formal occasion.

I think the interpretation of "formal" has gotten a bit loose over the years because I'm sure I'll see people in cocktail attire as well as floor length ballgowns.  I'll be rockin' a fancy maxi and some simple black heels.

In the end I feel like it's all about comfort more than anything.  Because really, if you feel good, you look good.  Check out some of my favs:

The Right... Western Boots

Happy Monday!!  I hope you all had a great weekend!  Mine consisted of a spur of the moment Zac Brown Band concert/beach day in New Jersey followed by brunch with a friend from home on Sunday at Cornelia Street Cafe (I highly recommend it - the food was delish!).  I spent the rest of Sunday prepping for the week ahead (it'll be a busy one with a Cyc fitness rooftop ride tonight, a work event tomorrow and the Edeyo Gives Hope Ball on Wednesday).  Today I'm taking you back to an outfit I wore to the Tough Enough to Wear Pink night at the Reno Rodeo while I was home and showing off the boots I practically lived in while I was there (why did I pack any other shoes??).

Speaking of the Edeyo Gives Hope Ball, I am honored to be a guest at the event and encourage you to check out the organization.  They are a non-profit organization based in New York City, that is devoted to providing a high-quality free education, food, water, and social support to the children of the impoverished Bel-Air neighborhood, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Tune in on Wednesday for a special Window Shopping Wednesday post with some tips for dressing for formal occasions - I did I mention this is my first formal gala I've ever attended?  I'm a little nervous!

The Right... July 4th Look - The Lake House

I'm slowly wrapping up my trip home and headed back to the big city tomorrow, but now I really have the Fourth of July on my mind and I'm sure you do too!  Last week, I shared some outfit inspo for a Fourth of July city BBQ and today I put together two outfits that I'll be pulling inspiration from for my trip to the lake house this weekend.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

I've definitely been on the hunt for a cute red/white/blue sundress because what's better than a denim jacket, sandals and a sundress with some hot dogs and a beer in hand?  Not much on the Fourth of July!

Window Shopping Wednesday: Summer Favorites

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7
Unfortunately, we're diving head first in to summer in the city which only means on thing: cue the heat and humidity.  My summer uniform will pretty much consist of easy dresses for work (think minimal amounts of fabric against my skin) and shorts and even easier dresses for the weekends.  This crepe shift dress is perfect for work to weekend because the fabric is super light weight and the white slip dress is that "easier" dress I referred to for the weekends (it's a little too casual to try to pull off at work).  Oh and the jacket?  You just never know when you'll get caught in a rain storm.  Always.be.prepared.

8 // 9 // 10 // 11
And since I've been on a huge fitness kick getting back into marathon training, I couldn't leave out the workout gear.  These leggings are a perfect dri-fit material (because again, we must battle the heat and humidity here) and the kicks are a fresh white for summer.  Oh and a secret?  I have been all about the built in bra tank tops for barre and yoga classes (luckily I don't have to worry about containing the girls for these activities).  Again, minimal layers.

What's on your summer favorites list?

The Right... Shift Dress

I typically struggle with shift dresses because my hips can tend to be a little tooooo large for the shape but when I saw this super affordable, amazing pink shift dress at Nordstrom I knew I had to give it a shot.  I read the reviews and almost ordered a size up but luckily it wasn't available so I purchased in my actual size and as fate would have it, it fit!!  I was so excited!!  It's so lightweight and perfect for summer - dressing it up for the office or down for weekends.

Also, how amazing is this wall?  It's actually an art installation out on the west side highway full of artists names.  Leave it to Krista to find an awesome backdrop for us!

Put a Cap on It

I'm usually not a hat person but this year I scooped up both a baseball cap and a felt hat and I have to admit, they're slowly growing on me!  I threw this on to meet up with Jen for a venture to City Bakery to check out their hot chocolate festival.  Apparently these leather leggings are my new go to for weekends because it's the second time I've busted them out in the last month.  Spoiler alert, I wore them again this past weekend. #sorryimnotsorry

Travel Attire: The Sweater Edition

I've showed you a couple of travel looks from past trips I've taken (here and here) and on my trip home it was nothing short of comfy per usual.

A couple of weeks ago Krista and I retreated inside Chelsea Market to take some pictures and I reenacted my plane outfit from my trip home last month (a nice little break from the frigid temps I usually bear this time of year).  I can't get enough of those lights!

Lime Green in Snow

Snowy day - check, puffy coat - check, wellies - check, a leather pencil skirt - errm..  Not exactly weather appropriate but for some reason I've reached for the leather pencil skirt/wellie combo on the two snowiest [work] days of the year so far (first offense here).  This time I switched the color to the top with my new uber cozy lime green Joe Fresh sweater.  Oh and check out the 'do!  It's about two inches shorter than I had wanted but the good thing about hair?  It grows :).  I'm really liking it so far!

What do you normally reach for on a snow day?

Have you entered my Enterprise Car Share giveaway yet?  You have til Sunday!

TheRightShoes Takes on Enterprise Car Share

Hola!  How's your 2014 going?  I know mine's off to a (kind of) slow start.  Or should I say cold start?  The weather was miz this weekend and basically had me snuggled in bed watching Netflix and only leaving for the gym and grocery store.  Oh and a little shopping excursion with Jen!  I was approached by Enterprise to tell you all about their new Car Share program and I even got to test it out with a little shopping trip (they sure know the way to my heart!).  Enterprise Car Share is a really convenient way to access the convenience of a car while living in a hustling bustling city.  As I'm sure you know, owning a car in New York is expensive when you consider the cost of loan or lease payments, insurance premiums, parking and gas. While I just sold my car at home this was a great opportunity for me to still have the option of having a car when mass transit is limited.  Basically you can reserve a car 24/7 and for short or long periods of time with a rate that includes gas and insurance. Car sharing makes running errands so much easier!

Enterprise is giving away a 1 year membership and a welcome kit (t-shirt, messenger bag and hat) to one of my readers!  It's super easy to enter (just 5 simple steps actually!) and they have a ton of locations around the country so this giveaway is open to more than just NYC readers!  Just head down to the form below.  And on the way you can see some snaps from mine and Jen's fashionable adventure to Nordstrom Garden State Plaza and Ikea!

I just couldn't resist the little red mini near my apartment!  Beep Beep!

Let's play "What's in the Nordstrom bag?" - any guesses?  Stay tuned for the big reveal (it's a good one, I promise!)

Safe and sound back in the city.  Driving around wasn't as intimidating as I thought it would be!
