It's funny how I sometimes overlook the importance of basics in my wardrobe. For example, before this winter I didn't really wear beanies much (I stuck with my fuzzy earmuffs instead) but I was browsing at Urban Outfitters one day and realized how much I needed a black slouchy beanie in my life. So I bought one and I've worn it SO many times since.

I think one of my favorite wardrobe tricks for winter (and going on two winters in a row now) is to layer a sweater over a dress because it extends the life of your summer dresses and automatically expands your wardrobe choices. Prime example is with this dress with the super cute cut outs on the sides. It was absolutely necessary to layer a sweater over it to be able to wear it this winter, otherwise it'd just be hanging in my closet waiting for warmer days. I can't wait to put this guy into heavy rotation this summer!

I know you've seen these sneakers a couple of times now (here and here in my Fitness Friday posts) but I recently received a request to style them in an every day outfit (because if you haven't caught on, they're all the rage right now). If you've followed me long enough though, you know I'm usually not the first to hop on a trend bandwagon but this one came just at the right time. Since I've been on the road to recovery from an IT band injury while marathon training I haven't really worn heels for at least 5 weeks. Yes, I know, I've worn them in my blog posts but I have to confess I haven't strutted around in them very long.
In an effort to pamper my feet and stay fashionable, I've incorporated these into my wardrobe pretty much every day so it's only fitting they made it into my go-to October outfit. It looks like Jackie fell for the sneaker trend this month too - be sure to check out her look as well!
Oh and sorry for the semi-awkward poses - I was doing my best to hide the tape job from my PT. T-4 days til my body gets a rest!
Happy Friday! We made it! Everything seemed to calm down from fashion week but pick right back up at the career job - funny how that works right? I'm headed to Chicago today for a short weekend getaway with one of my besties - follow along on my instagram and twitter for all the action. And if you haven't followed along yet, I'm taking over the Laqa & Co instagram until Sunday - head over there for more of my adventures!
Anyway, onto the good stuff. When I bought this Ann Taylor dress I knew it'd quickly become a staple in my wardrobe so I decided to challenge myself to style it beyond just one outfit post (and let's be serious.. when these outfit photos were taken it was about a thousand degrees and humid beyond all belief so I wanted to do some transitional styling).
I'm super excited to join Jackie and Taylor in their monthly go-to posts! I'm really looking forward to seeing what I have on repeat each month and sharing it with you.
I snatched up this lace tank during one of the J. Crew sales earlier this summer and I have worn it nonstop since after the Fourth of July. It's just SO good and goes with everything. It's easy to dress up for the office or dress it down for a weekend in the 'burbs (as seen here).

Happy Monday guys! I'm going to keep it short and sweet today. I had a little too much fun at Jen's birthday shindig and didn't have much left in my when it came to today's post. Somehow these summer weekends take everything out of me - I guess that's what happens when you're having fun! I bought these two pieces from the Phillip Lim x Target collab and have worn them separate but decided to throw them together one day and I really liked the way the look came out. I usually like to match (at least a portion of my outfit) but I've never worn a full on suit or matching set before. So here we are! Have you worn a matching set? What are your thoughts?

Boy. Last week was crazy busy. Good news - it wasn't all work busy, I did fun stuff too! I had the chance to attend the Edeyo Gives Hope Ball on Wednesday. I typically only produce fundraising events and rarely have the chance to attend them so it was nice to relax and enjoy myself. It such an amazing cause too, helping children in Haiti and the video they played (from the children) was definitely a tear jerker. I'd love for you to check it out!
I seriously debated turning to Rent the Runway for a dress but instead decided to shop my own closet. I settled on this black and white Parker number (you've seen it before here) and was so happy with my choice. It was super comfy and just the right amount of dressy.
Oh and hilarious story, Krista helped me snap these photos in Flatiron over the weekend and as I was changing out of my heels into flat sandals to run to the subway a man started screaming at me to put my heels back on because "they look so much better." This man literally quieted down the entire seating area outside the Flatiron building he was so loud. Oh and he didn't stop either. Definitely adding that to one of the most awkward moments taking blog pictures!
Happy Monday!! I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine consisted of a spur of the moment Zac Brown Band concert/beach day in New Jersey followed by brunch with a friend from home on Sunday at Cornelia Street Cafe (I highly recommend it - the food was delish!). I spent the rest of Sunday prepping for the week ahead (it'll be a busy one with a Cyc fitness rooftop ride tonight, a work event tomorrow and the Edeyo Gives Hope Ball on Wednesday). Today I'm taking you back to an outfit I wore to the Tough Enough to Wear Pink night at the Reno Rodeo while I was home and showing off the boots I practically lived in while I was there (why did I pack any other shoes??).
Speaking of the Edeyo Gives Hope Ball, I am honored to be a guest at the event and encourage you to check out the organization. They are a non-profit organization based in New York City, that is devoted to providing a high-quality free education, food, water, and social support to the children of the impoverished Bel-Air neighborhood, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Tune in on Wednesday for a special Window Shopping Wednesday post with some tips for dressing for formal occasions - I did I mention this is my first formal gala I've ever attended? I'm a little nervous!
