The Right... Magical Morning

My old office was across the street from Grand Central and every day I'd take the subway to work, exit straight into our building and hardly ever be phased that I passed through this iconic structure on a daily basis.  I am also usually crunched for time when taking the Metro North and run in with just enough time to grab my ticket and catch my train.  With that said, I was a little hesitant when Lisa suggested taking bloc pics in Grand Central because I know it's always crazy busy and I never really saw it as an option for a good backdrop.   Spending some time shooting that morning, I started to notice beautiful details and it really reminded me to not take for granted that these beautiful places are part of my day to day experience of living in this city.

Times, They Are A Changin'

0P8A6596

Let's do a little check in, shall we?  Life's been busy and, TBH, a little weird over here since I last checked in with you guys.  Busy because I had my triathlon last weekend (recap coming very soon!) and I'm trying to get back to regular strength training to prep for NYC Marathon training which starts Monday (gasp, I know.  I'm no where near ready for that).

0P8A6592

Life's been weird because lots of things have been changing in the last month or so.  I got back from vacation, came home to no roomie (she's in LA for the summer), had my last week at my old job, started my new job and a new routine and I have yet to really hit my stride or feel comfortable with everything.  To go from having a roommate or office mate to talk to every day to being in a new office environment and having the apartment to myself is weird.  Yes, I have friends and family that I talk to/text with almost every day but everything I've surrounded myself with the past three years changed.  I might also add that I have only been to NP once since June PR day because of all of this.  I can't bring myself to get up for the 5:28 AM Wednesday workouts and since I have to be in by 8:30 AM, I can't go to the usual 6:28 AM workout.  So needless to say, I'm in a really weird place.

Anyone else experience this or have suggestions or thoughts for getting through it?  Would love to hear!

Note on the dress - it's old from Zara but I've linked to a bunch of pretty lace ones below!  I think Bloomingdales and ASOS have the best selection right now - enjoy!:

The Right... Long Spring Cardigan

Banana Republic Long Cardigan

Don't let the smile in the first photo fool you - these pictures were taking on a true Manic Monday.  Followed by yet another rainy week.  I always find myself thinking about each seasons' weather and comparing it to years past where I'll find myself thinking that the current weather is a complete anomaly.  But then I realize I can't remember how the weather was this time last year so I just accept it as the norm and groan along with the rest of New York City that the current situation is less than ideal  It sure makes me wonder if summer will ever come.

Speaking of this weather, it's been a bit difficult to dress but I've been focused on light layers.  I love a good cardigan come fall and winter but since they're usually on the heavier side I don't think about them much once it really warms up for Spring/Summer.  This year I noticed a ton of light weight long cardigans popping up and knew I had to add one to my closet.  This one was perfect as a light layer when we had our first (and what feels like last) round of 70 degree beautiful Spring weather.  It's great for wearing while commuting and also perfect for the office.  I am definitely planning to style it with shorts and dresses once we hit much warmer weather (for the record it's been gross chilly and rainy for at least two weeks now).

The Right... Spring Ruffle Dress

WHITE_4

I have to admit, dresses are one of my major weaknesses (next to shoes of course) and I have an entire clothing rack dedicated to them.  I love how most dresses can be dressed up for work with a blazer/light jacket and heels or dressed down for weekend brunch - they're really a great way to maximize your wardrobe.

When I received this dress from Banana Republic I let out a tiny squeal because well, it's perfect.  The perfect spring color and the ruffles give it a nice little oomph.  I instantly saw myself wearing it to work or throwing on a military jacket and low heels for weekend adventures (which is what I did immediately after taking these pics when I headed to Williamsburg to venture around with my bestie).

I am loving everything from Banana Republic lately - I realized I've added so many of their pieces to my closet lately.  Praise Marissa Webb for her creative direction because she's definitely doing something right!

What's the one wardrobe item you can't live without?

The Right... Fall Stripes

I am seriously thanking Mother Nature as I draft this post because aside from a few unexpectedly cold days our transition to the dead of winter has been pretty smooth.  So much so that I haven't had to pull out the tights yet (but I don't think I'll be that lucky much longer!).

I scored this cotton/cashmere Uniqlo sweater dress on major sale (I'm talking $10) when I went in to stock up on tights a couple of weeks ago and it was such a good deal that I bought it in grey too.  Compulsive shopper?  No way - just bargain shopping the way my mom taught me to!  They've been in heavy rotation (along with this cape which didn't see much wear after I bought it this past Spring) and I can't wait to keep layering them straight through the cold months.

Oh and can we talk about this bag for a sec?  It's by Angela Roi - they've been around for a while now and I was lucky enough to meet the team during NYFW.  The online brand supports cancer and disease patients through the association of each color of bag and a portion of the proceeds of each bag directly benefit the designated cause.  I love when I find brands that give back and make amazing products.

The Right... Fall Trench

IMG_9970

IMG_9991

IMG_9983

IMG_9965

I have a confession to make.  I've had the same trench coat since senior year of college (read: over 5 years now).  I bought it at H&M and it was the first trench I ever purchased.  I can't tell you how many travels and adventures this coat has gotten me through which is why I was slightly devastated when I realized it was actually time to be a grown up and purchase a new trench.  They are hands down one of the greatest wardrobe staples but I quickly learned that just as I am super picky about the prints I purchase, I'm also just as picky about the khakis I put on my body.  I always wanted my next trench purchase to be a Burberry trench but that was not in the cards.  Along came the J.Crew icon trench and my heart was quickly stolen (along with a few dollars from my wallet).  When it arrived, I was super excited.  Until I put it on and it felt huge.  SO big compared to my tried and trusty H&M trench that fit like a glove (but also didn't allow much room for anything else underneath!) but everything else was perfect: the khaki material, the color, the length, everything.  I tried on at least 3 other brand's trench coats over a couple of weeks an nothing compared.  I ultimately decided to keep it and actually get the sleeves tailored (as many experts have preached for years).

I was too excited to show it off so the sleeves are still a little long in these pics but I know once I pick it up from the tailors it'll be a new trench that'll last me for another 5 years (if not longer!).

PS - don't tell J.Crew I took some inspiration from them for this look ;)

The Right... Oversized Bow Tie

IMG_1727

IMG_1750

IMG_1744

Question of the day: what do you wear to an NBA game?  On a Friday?  Well my friends, keep it simple with black and white.  I wore this to the Knicks vs. Nets game a couple of weeks ago after doing some mayje research on what to wear to an NBA game.  We were headed to Barclay's Queen Bey's territory after all and I wanted to make sure I looked good.  Oh and it was also a double date (insert must.look.good. pressure here).  How do you think I did?
