The Right... Weekend Wear

Summer is in full swing over here and I feel like I've been busier than ever.  I've been at the new job for FOUR weeks already (time seriously flies) and it's been a huge priority for me to get settled and focus on doing well.  I've also made sure to be as social as possible to try to remedy what I talked about in this post.  It hasn't been hard at all because summer in NYC is probably the busiest time of year with a gazillion things going on at all times.  


Since I've been dressing a lot more professional at work, I'm taking advantage of weekends to dress down a bit.  I usually don't love wearing shorts but this pair have been the perfect relaxed solution for the hot, busy summer.  What have you guys been up to?  Any fun trips planned?  I'm off to Vegas for a super quick trip for a bachelorette party - wish me luck that I survive!

The Right... Fall Trench

I have a confession to make.  I've had the same trench coat since senior year of college (read: over 5 years now).  I bought it at H&M and it was the first trench I ever purchased.  I can't tell you how many travels and adventures this coat has gotten me through which is why I was slightly devastated when I realized it was actually time to be a grown up and purchase a new trench.  They are hands down one of the greatest wardrobe staples but I quickly learned that just as I am super picky about the prints I purchase, I'm also just as picky about the khakis I put on my body.  I always wanted my next trench purchase to be a Burberry trench but that was not in the cards.  Along came the J.Crew icon trench and my heart was quickly stolen (along with a few dollars from my wallet).  When it arrived, I was super excited.  Until I put it on and it felt huge.  SO big compared to my tried and trusty H&M trench that fit like a glove (but also didn't allow much room for anything else underneath!) but everything else was perfect: the khaki material, the color, the length, everything.  I tried on at least 3 other brand's trench coats over a couple of weeks an nothing compared.  I ultimately decided to keep it and actually get the sleeves tailored (as many experts have preached for years).   I was too excited to show it off so the sleeves are still a little long in these pics but I know once I pick it up from the tailors it'll be a new trench that'll last me for another 5 years (if not longer!).   PS - don't tell J.Crew I took some inspiration from them for this look ;)

The Right... Slouchy Beanie

It's funny how I sometimes overlook the importance of basics in my wardrobe.  For example, before this winter I didn't really wear beanies much (I stuck with my fuzzy earmuffs instead) but I was browsing at Urban Outfitters one day and realized how much I needed a black slouchy beanie in my life.  So I bought one and I've worn it SO many times since.

February has definitely been a challenging month to dress for.  With the freezing temps I find myself just wanting to wear sweats and a fleece pullover at all times.  Oh and maybe a blanket.  Too bad these aren't acceptable for work but luckily I found something similar that's work appropriate.  Meet my wool joggers and turtleneck sweater combo.  I also would normally be wearing booties but the day we shot these it was particularly warm (read: 30 degrees) so I switched it up.  And hence the lighter jacket - I also get sick of being a marshmallow sometimes.  Is it summer yet?

The Right... Europe Outfit

While I was in Europe I did a really good job of packing everything in a carry on and taking pieces I could easily mix and match.  Not gonna lie though, I was a little tired of what I had to wear but after 9 days who would be?!  These boots and turtleneck were on heavy repeat (it was also a little chilly some days so layering was key).  I was lucky enough to be able to meet up with Taylor for lunch (at the most amazing sandwich place ever) and she snapped my only outfit pics of my whole trip.

The Right... Fall White Dress

 
I don't know about you but last weekend I finally put my shorts away and pulled out my sweaters (yes, in NYC you actually have to pack things away when the seasons change because really, who has a closet big enough for all the clothes all the time?)  There were a couple of things I was hesitant to pack away because they were some of my most loved pieces of Spring/Summer - this white dress being one of them.  I decided to challenge myself and see how I can style them through winter, and here's my first attempt!!  Luckily the weather hasn't quite turned freezing cold yet because I don't think this would go too well with tights (but then again, you never know :) ).  I layered a sweater over and topped with my go-to faux leather jacket and I was ready for a fall weekend adventure.  How would you style it?  I'd love to hear in the comments below!

East vs. West: Fall Beauty

    I have to admit, I was never really a beauty project junkie, and definitely rarely explored outside of my typical light shimmery shadow, black liner and mascara combo until I moved to NYC.  I definitely had an affinity toward constantly painting my nails before I moved here but wearing lipstick or even caring about my eye brows one slightest bit?  It was never a thought.  And then I moved here, met Jen, loved her lip colors and decided to start dabbling.  And then I met Jackie and continued to dabble but secretly obsessed over how amazing her makeup always looked (or should I say looks all.the.time.).  Then, Krista hosted this awesome makeup party before the rS party during NYFW and the MUA used a sort of eyebrow mascara and I was hooked.     When we had the chance to work with Laqa & Co I was ecstatic because that just meant more lip colors and polishes to play with.  Their lip pencils are seriously awesome (my favorites are the Menatour sheer lip lube pencil and the Wolfman Fat Lip Pencil).  I'm wearing Plonk nail polish in this post.  Be sure to check out everyone's beauty looks with the links below!

Fitness Friday: Marathon Training Check In

  Happy Friday everyone!  I have to admit, I've been very spoiled at work - prior to this week I hadn't worked a normal/full week at my job since the middle of August [insert guilty face emoji here].  As awesome as it was it was kind of a wake up call this week!  I definitely had multiple cups of coffee days (that was probably due to the weather too - it was verrrry rainy this week).  


  I wanted to check in with you and get a little status update on my marathon training.  And also, talk about being really real with you guys.  Today's outfit is nothing special at all - I'm sure you're thinking a trench, leggings and sunnies?  What?  Well I have to admit, I've been living in these sneakers because I will not risk hurting my feet/legs by wearing heels and most of the time on the weekends lately I've been running around in my workout gear because when you're in pain most of the time comfort really does become key.  Also I feel like I'm not being completely honest with you if I didn't show you my dressed down side once in a while.  
  Luckily my PT is amazing and I'm on the mend from my little IT band injury (after 2 sessions a week for the last couple of weeks) and I'm bound and determined to finish this marathon.  And make it a great race.  I had a lot of doubts but I completed 17 miles last weekend (12 running, 5 quick walking) and it really gave me  a mental boost.  And on race day, it's honestly about 80% mental.  I'm definitely starting to feel a little overwhlemed because I realized this is the largest race I've ever run (I think NWM was only like 15,000 runners).  In the end though, I'm just going to focus on the journey and enjoy myself.  I keep visualizing my November Project peeps waiting for me at the #mile14 takeover (they're working the water station!) and my friends waiting for me at the end.  They've been nothing short of supportive and they can't even begin to understand how much it's meant for me to constantly yap about the race and running and my injury and blah, blah, blah.
