The Right... Slouchy Beanie

IMG_9227

IMG_9224

It's funny how I sometimes overlook the importance of basics in my wardrobe.  For example, before this winter I didn't really wear beanies much (I stuck with my fuzzy earmuffs instead) but I was browsing at Urban Outfitters one day and realized how much I needed a black slouchy beanie in my life.  So I bought one and I've worn it SO many times since.

The Right... Go-To October Outfit

Go-To oct
Jackie // Living After Midnite

IMG_9290

I know you've seen these sneakers a couple of times now (here and here in my Fitness Friday posts) but I recently received a request to style them in an every day outfit (because if you haven't caught on, they're all the rage right now).  If you've followed me long enough though, you know I'm usually not the first to hop on a trend bandwagon but this one came just at the right time.  Since I've been on the road to recovery from an IT band injury while marathon training I haven't really worn heels for at least 5 weeks.  Yes, I know, I've worn them in my blog posts but I have to confess I haven't strutted around in them very long.

In an effort to pamper my feet and stay fashionable, I've incorporated these into my wardrobe pretty much every day so it's only fitting they made it into my go-to October outfit.  It looks like Jackie fell for the sneaker trend this month too - be sure to check out her look as well!
Oh and sorry for the semi-awkward poses - I was doing my best to hide the tape job from my PT.  T-4 days til my body gets a rest!

The Right... Western Boots

Happy Monday!!  I hope you all had a great weekend!  Mine consisted of a spur of the moment Zac Brown Band concert/beach day in New Jersey followed by brunch with a friend from home on Sunday at Cornelia Street Cafe (I highly recommend it - the food was delish!).  I spent the rest of Sunday prepping for the week ahead (it'll be a busy one with a Cyc fitness rooftop ride tonight, a work event tomorrow and the Edeyo Gives Hope Ball on Wednesday).  Today I'm taking you back to an outfit I wore to the Tough Enough to Wear Pink night at the Reno Rodeo while I was home and showing off the boots I practically lived in while I was there (why did I pack any other shoes??).

Speaking of the Edeyo Gives Hope Ball, I am honored to be a guest at the event and encourage you to check out the organization.  They are a non-profit organization based in New York City, that is devoted to providing a high-quality free education, food, water, and social support to the children of the impoverished Bel-Air neighborhood, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Tune in on Wednesday for a special Window Shopping Wednesday post with some tips for dressing for formal occasions - I did I mention this is my first formal gala I've ever attended?  I'm a little nervous!

Spring Style: Wedding Guest

If your friends are anything like mine, they've been getting engaged left and right which only means one thing: weddings upon weddings upon weddings!  I truly enjoy going to weddings and taking part in all the celebrations of two people I love get married so its been a little tough for me being all the way across the country and missing out on so many.

Speaking of friends from home and weddings, this outfit is a perfect example of something I'd wear if I were attending a wedding in (or near) my hometown.  Keep it simple and add a little casual element with the denim jacket (unless its super fancy/black tie of course!).  What would you wear to a wedding in your hometown?

East v. West Style: Festival

It's week two of East v. West and this week we're showing you what to wear to that music festival you're going to!  Festival season is right around the corner with Coachella in just a couple of weeks!  I'm definitely more of a country music festival fan so my look took that spin.  I'm pairing a flowy sundress with a denim jacket and booties for an easy, effortless combination.  And don't forget a cross body bag, you never know when you need your hands free to throw them up in the air and dance a little!

What are you wearing to the festivals this year?!

The Right... Blingged Topper

While it's still freezing in NYC what better way to bear the weather than in some embellished warm clothes?  This is my roommate's amazing "vintage" J. Crew beenie and when I saw her put it on about a month ago I knew I had to borrow it and feature it on the blog.  We call it vintage because it's a couple years old but still oh so appropriate to sport during the cold weather.

And here is yet another weekend look where I'm sporting my faux leather leggings.  I have a feeling this trend won't go away as long as it's chilly outside #guiltyascharged.

Jacket: Elle from Kohl's, Sweatshirt: LOFT (similar here), Leggings: Halogen (similar here), Flats: Banana Republic, Bag: Rebecca Minkoff, Hat: J. Crew (old)

Colorful Throwback

Happy Monday!  Hope ya'll had a great weekend.  I'm definitely throwin' it back a bit here with these outfits.  They are leftover from my trip to Napa with my besties back in August.  To the left is the outfit I wore wine tasting and to the right was my Sunday brunch/red-eye outfit.  I'm definitely trying to figure out a way to transition that maxi to the fall because I realized I love the colors so much.

How To: Coast to Coast Weekend Packing

I'm usually one to completely over pack for a trip but when I was preparing for a quick trip to the West Coast for a  bestie reunion a couple of weeks ago, I knew I couldn't overpack.  I planned to carry on and I also bought a new weekender bag (this Sole Society baby) to use.  The bag ended up being smaller than I had expected but I loved it so much I decided to keep it and rose to the challenge of using it for the weekend.

My strategy was to pack things I could easily mix and match and I also had to have an outfit on hand in case I didn't make it into the city early enough to go home before work on Monday morning (I took a red-eye back on Sunday night.

Here's what I packed:

 photo sonoma4_zps446797af.jpg
Striped Skirt - Joe Fresh, Striped Peplum - Target, Boyfriend Jeans - Forever21, White T-Shirt - Madewell, Scarf - Zara, Maxi Dress - c/o Parker (via internship), Blouse - Humble Chic, Striped Tank - Gap, Floral Skirt - Loft, Jean Jacket - Elle, Bracelets - Ily Couture & Kristin Hassan, Clutch - Gigi New York, Wedges - Nickels, Gladiators - Nine West

You already saw my travel outfit from the trip last week, but here are the combinations I could have made:
striped skirt + pink blouse
striped skirt + white tee
striped peplum + jeans
striped peplum + floral skirt
striped tank + boyfriend jeans
white tee + boyfriend jeans

And of course the scarf and jeans go with all these!  I also left a black blazer at the office over the weekend to throw on for work (and it's a good thing I did, I went straight to work from the airport!).
Stay tuned for the weekend outfits and here are some snaps from the trip!
