The Right... Winterized Dress

IMG_1557

IMG_1532

I think one of my favorite wardrobe tricks for winter (and going on two winters in a row now) is to layer a sweater over a dress because it extends the life of your summer dresses and automatically expands your wardrobe choices.  Prime example is with this dress with the super cute cut outs on the sides.  It was absolutely necessary to layer a sweater over it to be able to wear it this winter, otherwise it'd just be hanging in my closet waiting for warmer days.  I can't wait to put this guy into heavy rotation this summer!

The Right...Go-To January Outfit

I can't believe we're at the end of January already!!  I have a really great explanation for my radio silence this month and I promise I'll explain soon.  In the meantime, I'm really excited to share my (second post of 2015) January go-to outfit with you!  I found myself wearing knee high boots, a skirt and a sweater one too many times this month!  It fluctuated between freezing cold to a pretty mild (30*) day and back to freezing cold.  And as I'm writing this I'm in the process of riding out blizzard Juno.  I hope you all are having a great week and I can't believe we are almost done with the first month of 2015.  Crazy how time flies!

The Right... Navy Loafers

IMG_5854.2

I had the pleasure of interviewing David Bromstad a couple of weeks ago to talk about his newest collection with Naturalizer and let me just say, it was AWESOME.  He is hilarious and you can tell his designs are completely original and based largely on his personality.  I've loved David ever since his HGTV Design Star days (my mom has also been a huge fan since) and to spend some time with him in person and be able to chat about one of my favorite things on the planet was completely surreal.

Also, I must note, you HAVE to make it into a Naturalizer store to check out the collection in person - the photos on the website don't give the detail or comfort justice.  Speaking of comfort, I'm so thankful for my new pair of loafers from the collection because they're the perfect little pillows to put on my feet while I finish out this marathon training.

I'm also loving this moto boot, these heels and this Chelsea boot in the collection!

The Right... Leather Shorts

IMG_5112

IMG_5108

I've been on the hunt for the perfect faux leather shorts for a while and when H&M decided to totally kill it with their fall collection, I saw these babies and knew I had to have them.  My old pair was very fitted and sometimes tough to wear so I am welcoming the upgrade.  And I can't wait to style them during this transitional weather.

The Right... Ruffle Top

The weather here has been pretty horrible (read: awesome but I don't want to jinx it) these last couple of weeks.  We've had a taste of fall over a couple of days and it made me want to pull out all my favorite fall clothes and start dressing cozier.  I'm trying not to get too far ahead of myself so I'm easing into it with this outfit.  Also, I realized I haven't styled a basic white top/jeans combo in a while (it's easy to just be dressed up all the time if I'm not running around in workout gear!).

The Right... Palm Print Dress

IMG_5001

IMG_5003

It seemed like palm leave prints popped up everywhere this summer and I was so excited to get my hands on this guy!  I threw on my new mules (yes, I finally broke down and bought a pair) and a blazer to show how I'd wear it for drinks with the gals.

Also, can we talk about how great this Brahmin clutch is?  I went to their press preview last week and fell in love with everything.  Seriously, they have the best stuff coming out!  And this clutch proved to be perfect for a night out this last weekend (it holds a ton!).

Window Shopping Wednesday: Back to Basics

Sometimes you just need to go back to the basics and build your wardrobe from the ground up.  Lately I've realized I'm missing a couple of these basics or that they need to be replaced and upgraded a little.  I'm definitely missing a good skinny black dress pant and believe it or not I lost my grey cardigan a while ago which created a huge hole.  As we approach the fall months cardigans are definitely a key layering piece!  Oh and ballet flats are definitely a must - I've been really drawn to red lately and they create a great pop of color in an outfit!

And I think it may be time to upgrade my trench coat - I've had it for about 8 years now (crazy, I know!) - and it's definitely feeling a little smaller lately.

What's on your list for basics?  Have you discovered you're missing anything as of late?

Window Shopping Wednesday: Currently Coveting

Today I wanted to share a few things I've been eyeing around the internets.  I know we're still in the middle of summer but I can't help but start to want to gravitate toward some fall fashion!  Or at least transition pieces, like that camo skirt and that tweed jacket - I'm keeping the rest light and airy for you though!

Window Shopping Wednesday: A Formal Affair

I'm so excited for tonight you guys!  I'm headed to the Edeyo Gives Hope Ball which is an organization devoted to improving the future for children in Haiti through programs focused on education.  In honor of this occasion today I'm talking all about what to wear to a formal occasion.

I think the interpretation of "formal" has gotten a bit loose over the years because I'm sure I'll see people in cocktail attire as well as floor length ballgowns.  I'll be rockin' a fancy maxi and some simple black heels.

In the end I feel like it's all about comfort more than anything.  Because really, if you feel good, you look good.  Check out some of my favs:

Supporting the impoverished Bel-Air neighborhood, in Port-au-Prince Haiti, Edeyo’s primary school supplies life-changing opportunities through free education and the provision of desperately needed food, water, health care, and social support to affected children. Since its grassroots beginning in 2007, Edeyo has grown to support a school of over 300 elementary school students annually, providing them with a haven of safety and hope. Edeyo also provides full scholarships to over two dozen high school students, facilitating their path to long-term success.
