When I was home this past weekend we were experiencing an Indian Summer like no other - it was 90* when I landed and crept to 85* each day over the weekend (mind you it's almost the middle of October).  I shot these photos at the end of August with Jen but wanted to get them on the blog while I was still feeling those Indian Summer vibes on my 7 hour layover on the way back to NYC.

The Right... Summer Work Uniform

Club Monaco Drop Waist Dress, Report Signature Leopard Pumps, 3.1 Philip Lim Bag, Max & Chloe Necklace

Ahhh summer in the city.  There's nothing quite like it, especially when it comes to getting dressed.  Getting dressed to go work in a professional environment in a city with crazy humidity spells can be challenging.  And especially challenging for a girl who grew up around dry heat and still isn't used to humidity (I will always be convinced that dry heat is more bearable).  Most work days I want the least amount of clothing touching my skin as possible but considering a bra and underwear don't really fly in the office, an easy breezy dress is the next best thing.  I was pumped when I snagged this guy at Club Monaco during their last big sale. I knew it'd be on heavy rotation and I haven't been wrong.

East vs. West: Holiday Hostess

IMG_1321

I definitely love entertaining, especially during the holidays, but I have to admit that I haven't done much of it since moving to NYC.  The space makes it challenging and the hectic schedule also makes it challenging so today I had to pretend a little.  Luckily I feel like a "holiday hostess" outfit can also double as a "holiday guest" outfit so you're also seeing the outfit I wore at Jackie's holiday party.
Oh and before I forget, let's take a moment to recognize this leather jacket and these pumps.  It's really awesome getting to work with amazing brands on this blog and getting to add quality items to my closet.  I think it's safe to say I have two new obsessions!
Check out the rest of the East vs. West girl's hostess outfits!

Full disclosure: I'm not wearing tights and I was regretting it for sure - it was frigid when we shot these!

Winterizing a Summer Favorite

I've been searching for the perfect black turtle neck sweater to layer over (or under) some of my favorite summer dresses and I finally found one over Christmas!  Cue the urge to wear it all.the.time.

I threw it on over one of my favorite summer dresses (from this post) and paired it with some boots and tights for an easy work look.  Speaking of boots, I'm finally showing you what I picked up at Nordstrom during mine and Jen's trip to NJ!  I wish I had an amazing story about being gifted these boots or something but instead it's just the result of developing quite the obsession over them and failing to find a good/cheaper alternative.  With that said, meet my new babies.  I never want to take them off.  Kudos Stuart, no wonder these have been so popular for 20 years.

Sweater: Apt. 9, Dress: Julie Jordan (similar here), Tights: Uniqlo, Boots: Stuart Weitzman, Snood: ASOS, Necklace: Stella & Dot, Purse: c/o Folli Follie, Bracelets: c/o Max and Chloe and Kristin Hassan, Watch: Fossil

Work to Play: Striped Lace Dress

Today I'm showing you how I styled my Ivy + Blu striped lace dress for work and for play.  You already caught the play post here in the North v. South collab and below is how I wore it to work.  These pics were definitely taken a couple of weeks ago when a) my hair was long and b) before we had the massive nor'easter and sub zero temps yesterday.  A little leather and some booties make this super feminine dress a little edgier for the office.

P.S. Have you entered my giveaway with Enterprise Car Share yet??

Dress: c/o Ivy + Blu, Tights: Uniqlo, Booties: LOFT, Jacket: Forever21, Bracelets: Stella & Dot and c/o Max & Chloe

Saturday Fall Shopping in SoHo

When Katie and Shelby stayed the weekend with me (yes, I realize this was a while ago) we met up with Jen and did some shopping in SoHo.  I love the SoHo area - it's always so hustly bustly but it's fun sometimes and literally every store you need is in the area.  We stopped by the LuLu Frost x J. Crew pop up shop where Katie and Shelby DIY'd necklaces with Lisa Salzar herself and then we naturally took a little break for some outfit photos.

It was a bit chilly that weekend so I opted for the light layered look.

Jacket: Old Navy (similar here and here), Vest: Michael Kors (old, similar here and here), Sweater: LOFT (similar here), Jeans: Massimo Dutti, Booties: c/o Sole Society, Bag: vintage Dooney & Bourke, Bracelets: Ily Couture & c/o Max & Chloe

Central Park Lace and Leaves

Last year I tried to do a Central Park outfit shoot to try to capture all the fall colors but we were about two weeks to early.  The stars aligned this year and as Katie, Shelby, Jen and I strolled through Central Park this last weekend we were greeted by the most amazing color scheme.

I scooped up this coat on major sale this last weekend during our SoHo shopping adventures and I literally can't take it off.  It's the perfect transition piece!  It also happened to pair perfectly with my new top from Promod (who is new to the United States btw!!).

Two Year Blogiversary

Yesterday The Right Shoes turned two years old.  It's crazy to think how fast time flies and how much things have changed since I started this little guy.  It all started as a creative outlet and has turned into an opportunity to work with brands, develop my social media/design skills and has led me to meet some amazing women.  I honestly don't know what I'd do in this city if it hadn't been for my blog.  I don't think I'd have any friends (that might be an exaggeration but it wouldn't be the same).  I've met one of my best friends and it's really helped me hone in on my personal style.  I'm definitely still working on the personal style but that's part of the fun of it!

I remember two years ago when I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new point & shoot camera so I could finally start taking outfit photos.  I've gone from the tripod in the backyard to scouting locations and shooting with Jen on the streets of New York City on the weekends.

I couldn't do this without your support and I thank you for your kind comments and continued readership.  Thanks for stopping by and here's to many more years to come!

And with that, here's another NYFW outfit :)

Double Duty Lace

I wore this outfit a while back and took it from "desk to drinks" for the London Times #savvysummer party.  It was the night before I went home for a week (I can't believe it's been four weeks!) and it was the perfect way to kick off my vacation.  For some reason I can't stop the lace on lace combo - it's just too good and too easy!
