I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this sweater (and the fact that it's so affordable makes me question when I'll pull the trigger and purchase in the other colors) and it was a serious staple when I was home for the holidays.  Before I left to go home, New York City had been experiencing very temperate weather so I didn't quite know what to expect when my mom told me Reno was expecting highs of 30.  50/60 degrees to 30s?  Woof.  I literally packed every sweater I own and all the long sleeve shirts possible so I could layer correctly.

I also have to admit that I think this vest was my best purchase for the cold weather season - it's so light but so warm making it the perfect layer. It was a key piece while I dealt with the cold at home!

What's been your cold weather go-to this season?

Also a little outtake for you today as I almost fell on my ass in the snow - I'm shocked I didn't break my neck falling on all the ice and snow we had.  I learned that NONE of the shoes I had with me had any traction...

It's always dangerous when I shop after a nice long brunch and I have to admit, I sometimes walk away with pieces I'm really not sure about later.  Two Christmas' ago, I spent a weekend in San Francisco with my best friends before heading home for the holidays and that very thing happened.  I went to my first (bottomless) gospel brunch and then we walked all over San Francisco popping in and out of stores.  In this random boutique I spotted this pink fluffy sweater/coat and knew I had to have it (or well, post-brunch me definitely thought I had to have it).  I wore it for New Year's Eve that year and then it basically sat in my closet the rest of the time because again, I just wasn't sure about it.  Earlier this year when I was going through clothes, I told myself that I had to wear this guy at least twice or it was being donated.  Sure enough, I've worn it at least twice and I anticipate a few more wears out of it before it gets too warm!  Check out a few similar options below!

Happy Sunday!  Have you recovered from the holiday madness yet?  I'm still getting there (hence this post going up over the weekend versus last Wednesday when I had originally planned).  It's been a whirlwind of a trip home - it took nearly 20 hours to get to Reno (I can't complain because I fly for free/on standby and Southwest's customer service is amazing but it def makes for a loooooong day) and of course I've been going non-stop since  I arrived.  I've been racking up some solid family and friend time which is my favorite.  And when I'm only home twice a year I really have to make sure I fit everything in!

Cheers to Christmas and family time and my last holiday outfit post finally making it to the blog - enjoy!

[full disclosure: I wore this number sans tights to Jackie's holiday brunch because the weather has been ah-mazing in NYC.  I wish I could say the same for Reno but we woke up to a white Christmas so I can't complain too much!]

The Right... Holiday Metallics

IMG_5999

IMG_6028

The holiday party madness is finally slowing down for me and I couldn't be happier.  As much as I love bouncing from shindig to shindig, when you throw work events in the mix without any downtime it can make a girl go a little crazy.  While getting dressed for the parties this year I wanted to keep things simple and relaxed and I found myself gravitating toward cozy layers with subtle hints of metallics.  This Old Navy coat is the perfect winter white and super warm!

Olive + Polka Dots

Last weekend I met up with Jenny & Jessica to stroll through Central Park in hopes of seeing the leaves in yellow/orange/red but they were still mostly green with hints of yellow and orange.  It was a beautiful afternoon nonetheless, despite the drizzly overcast weather.  I am so grateful to be able to surround myself with people that have the same interests as me and also connect with bloggers I used to follow when I lived in Reno.

Also, we rounded the corner of one of the paths and came to the very famous row of trees/benches/lampposts and had a total "ah-ha!" moment because we all recognized this location from photos and movies but didn't know exactly where it was.  Here's what I wore that afternoon!

One Vest, Two Ways

I wore the first outfit yesterday for #StyleMeMay "shows off your gams" and the other a couple weeks ago.  Apparently I like keeping it neutral when I wear this vest....  Might have to change that!

World Traveler: Business Edition

Yesterday was "World Traveler" for #StyleMeMay and let me tell you, this orange get-up sure had me in a peppy mood!  This dress makes me feel like traveling south of the border - throw on some sandals and you're set for the beach!  However, I wasn't fortunate enough to be south of the border so I had to class it up for work.  '

Feeling very J. Crew

I was feeling very inspired by J. Crew when I got dressed this morning!  Even though the skirt is from Forever 21, it still had a very J. Crew lace skirt feel.  Hope you all have a great week - it's back from vacation and back to the grind for me!

P.S.  I'm working on a recap of my vacation (outfits/activities) and I'm hoping to have it up very soon!

P.P.S.  Check me out on the What We Wore: Stripes Challenge!  I was absolutely thrilled to be featured on Jessica's blog.

Blouse: J. Crew, Skirt: Forever 21, Watch: Fossil, Bracelet: Gifted, shoes: CL by Laundry
