Let's talk fitness goals for a sec shall we?
If you've been reading the blog for a bit you'll know I suffered a really bad case of IT band syndrome from running the 2014 NYC Marathon. I somehow pulled enough races together last year to complete the 9+1 guaranteed entry into the 2016 NYC Marathon. And then I stopped running completely in November. I think I lost motivation, lost a little hope, got a little tired and just needed a break (breaks are ok sometimes, right?). I also thought I'd take the time to strength train to get ready for when I wanted to run again. That puts us at today. I started Tone It Up in January and did my best to do my workouts but I stayed focused on eating right more than anything. I've been setting small monthly goals like drinking enough water, at least 3 servings of veggies/day, strength train 3x/week, etc.
Finished my 9th race in 2015 giving me guaranteed entry into the 2016 NYC Marathon! Oh and it was my birthday too :) |
Running the Brooklyn Half Marathon
Completing my first Triathlon (scheduled for July!)
Running the 2016 New York City Marathon
I've started going to physical therapy, doing a hip rehab routine at home and am running 15-20 minutes during the week and last weekend ran 30 minutes (which put me at 3.22 miles!) on top of strength/cross training. At first when my PT told me to run 15-20 minutes to get a base I thought "Seriously? That's barely 1.5-2 miles" but I also realized through this whole process that I need to remember while yes I've "always been a runner," unless I'm being consistent, I shouldn't go out and just run 5-6 miles and not expect to be hurting. So I'll be focusing on consistency and [seriously] easing back into it. I'll be using these Fitness Friday posts to update you on my training progress each week and I hope you enjoy going on this journey with me!
